Privacy Notice | MAINA237

Last updated: 6 August 2026. This notice explains what the Maina237 campaign does with personal information, in line with the Data Protection Act, 2019. It is written to be read, not to be survived.

Who is responsible

The data controller is the Maina237 campaign, the campaign of Patrick Maina Macharia, candidate for Member of County Assembly, Thika Township Ward, Kiambu County, under the Democracy for Citizens Party.

What we collect

When you fill the sign-up form: your name, phone number, estate, how you would like to help, and a record that you consented, with the date and time.
When you message us on WhatsApp: your phone number, your WhatsApp display name, and what you write to us.
When you report a street issue: what you describe, and the estate it concerns.

That is the complete list. We do not ask for your ID number, your voter registration details, your income, your religion, your health or your ethnicity, and you should be cautious of any campaign that does.

Why we have it, and on what basis

We hold it on the basis of your consent, which you give by ticking the box on the form or by messaging us first. We use it for three things only:

To send you campaign updates and invitations, by WhatsApp or SMS.
To tell you when the Mobile Office is coming to your estate.
To count and group the issues raised in each estate, so that they can be taken into budget submissions with the evidence attached.

When issues are published as part of the ward record, they are published without your name or number: the street and the problem, not the person.

Who we share it with

Nobody. We do not sell, rent, trade or lend your details. We do not pass them to other candidates, and we do not pass them to the party.

A firewall worth stating plainly. Maina chairs a savings and credit society and a church fellowship, both of which hold member registers. Those registers are not campaign lists and will never be used as one. Membership of an institution he serves is not consent to be contacted by a campaign he runs.

Three service providers necessarily handle data on our behalf:

How long we keep it

Until six months after the 2027 General Election, after which the supporter list is deleted, unless you have asked to stay in contact. If you opt out earlier, your details are removed within seven days.

Your rights

Under the Data Protection Act, 2019 you have the right to:

Be told what we hold about you, and get a copy of it.
Have anything inaccurate corrected.
Have your details deleted.
Object to how we are using them, or withdraw consent at any time.
Complain to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner if we get it wrong.

To use any of these, reply STOP to any message, or contact us on 0738 237 000 or by WhatsApp. We will act within seven days and confirm when it is done. There is no charge, and you do not have to give a reason.

Children

We do not knowingly collect the details of anyone under 18. If you believe we have, tell us and we will delete them.

Changes to this notice

If this notice changes, the date at the top changes with it and the previous version is kept on request. We will not quietly widen what we do with your details.
