Since 2018
Since 2018, Maina has kept Thika’s young footballers equipped and playing: kit, balls and training materials for local teams, long before any campaign.
The reason is simple: a young person with a team, a coach and a fixture on Saturday has somewhere to belong. Talent kept busy today does not need rescuing tomorrow.
A jersey opens the door. What waits on the other side must be bigger than a wage: contracts young people can own, skills they can sell, and a town whose economy does not close at midnight.
The youth agenda
A local-content rule for ward works, and a business desk that helps youth groups qualify to bid: registration, tax compliance, bid bonds. Don’t just carry the stones.
Transport that runs late, security beyond bulbs, storage and licensing, so the hustle doesn’t have to end at midnight.
Work-with-Pay apprenticeships negotiated with local factories, and TVET pathways: paid work that builds a trade, not just a day’s wage.
